The April 2010 party --
From what I've been able to piece together, here's the story on these gatherings.
In October 2008 a few friends from Baker decided to get together at Cook's Place in Columbus. They had a good time and decided to do it again in 6 months - thus the 2009 April Spring Fling. In the meantime the www.bakerlionspride.com website had come into being and word got out and instead of just a few folks, it was more like 600-700.
Since that went fairly well, it was decided to do it again in October 2009 so that people who didn't make it in April could perhaps attend.
Now, it is my understanding that these are not intended to be reunions - just massive parties open to anyone who attended Baker. You are expected to provide your own food, drink and chairs/tables. Volunteers provide music and entertainment. So the only cost is transportation and lodging.
I think the classes of '74 & '75 held their class reunions in conjunction with the Oct 09 party so they had functions like the bar-b-que lunch and golf tournament scheduled but they opened these so anyone could attend.
Since the Oct 09 ROAR went well with over 900 attending, discussion began to have another party in 6 months (April 2010). Bill Land, who lives in Cleveland GA and has access to some type of event site with concessions, restrooms and covered seating, volunteered to be the host to give Roy Cook a break.
So that's the story. Not a reunion - just a massive party open to all Baker alumni. You provide your own food & drink so there's no bar and no buffet/meal. Your only cost is transportation & lodging. However, because there are concession stands at Bill's venue, he may arrange to have local vendors provide food/refreshments - more to come on that.
